Leadership is important

The Right Choice for CVUSD

Four years ago I was elected as a CVUSD Board Member because of my educational background, professional experience, proven leadership skills, and history of community involvement. I hope to continue our pragmatic, results-oriented approach and focus on the challenges and opportunities ahead for the school district. As always I will contribute an analytical and fresh perspective to the issues we address and bring a high level of energy, commitment, and passion to this critically important position.

Why Karen

I am excited to be running again for a seat on the Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) Board of Education – the seat that represents the Westlake area.  I have been an engaged and productive board member and I am proud of the good work we have accomplished in the last four years.

I believe in public education and the CVUSD. It’s why my husband and I moved to this community and chose to raise our family here. My children have benefited from their CVUSD education and I have devoted my time and energy over the years to support its mission.

I have three primary objectives for my next term:

  • Ensure educational opportunity and success for every student.
  • Foster a positive environment which considers the physical, social-emotional, and mental health of students.
  • Provide effective and efficient board management and fiscal oversight.

In my time as trustee, I have proudly served on the Budget LCAP Committee, the Visual and Performing Arts Strategic Planning Committee, the Greater Conejo Chamber of Commerce Education and Workforce Development Committee, the Career Technical Education (CTE) Advisory Committee, the Student Wellness Committee, and the Facilities Committee. I was Board President in 2022, a very contentious election year.

My professional background is business-focused. I have an undergraduate degree from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Harvard Business School. In my career, I worked with businesses on corporate strategy, marketing, and operational effectiveness. I will continue to bring this knowledge and experience to our District.

Over the next few months I will be reaching out to discuss the successes we have had in recent years at CVUSD, review the challenges and issues that we face, and share my excitement about the many opportunities we have to work together to keep CVUSD a top-ranked school district. Most importantly, I want to hear from you about what we are doing well and what we should be doing better.

We have learned that here in the Conejo Valley, school board campaigns are very competitive and expensive to run. We expect to be challenged by well-funded opponents. Any support you can provide the campaign to help us get to the finish line would be much appreciated. Let’s get to work!
